Watson

After losing Tanner, I really struggled with the idea of another dog. But our house was so empty and quiet. I missed my shadow and I missed having something to take care of. So we researched, and searched. Made calls and talked to our vets. That finally turned up a male that I was determined to get a puppy out of. From there I found a breeder who was planning to breed both of her females to this male. I was lucky enough to contact her early enough and we were able to send in our deposit and get first choice yellow male after the breeder of both litters!! So the next few months we waited on updates, were the females pregnant, yes!, would she have any males, yes!, would there be enough for us to definitely get one, yes!!!!! But who knew that out of two litters we would have such a big decision to make. The female that I had been eyeing had six pups, only two males, but the other female had 13 pups, with four males! Our first trip out to meet them one of the males out of the litter I really liked had been dropped so was really skittish, the other slept the whole time. But his mom was amazingly sweet and I was just drawn to her. We played with the other litter but I kept coming back to the two boys. Finally the last visit before they were to come home, we made our choice. Our little fat male woke up long enough to finally show us his personality! And I was in love all over again.During our first visit. He was very sleepy and hung out by his brother the entire visit.Decision day! How could we say no to that little face? And not so little paws!
The first week we had him home, it was just me and Watson. Scott was hunting so I got the first few nights as he settled in. I think he managed ok!This is within the first hour with eachother! He still loves that silly chicken! He LOVES the boys, and loves water. Looks like I will be investing in another baby pool this summer. And he loves to test the boundaries! Always getting into new mischief!Like most dogs, he loves the snow, and loves making new friends! We are hoping to train him to be Scott's buddy in the field for hunting. And he is at the age that we are ready to start the process. He definitely seems to have the brains for it, at least most of the time! Rocked his puppy kindergarten class, and has now moved onto Junior Novice Obedience! And he has already started learning how to swim!
He has been another wonderful addition to our family. While I was worried about feeling like I was trying to replace Tanner, I have been reminded that while there will be other dogs, there will never be another Tanner. Just like now I know there will never be another Watson. Watson is his own dog and he has worked his way into our hearts just the same. And instead of being sad we are enjoying seeing the differences and similarities. While Tanner was always the "boss", Watson is perfectly happy being the follower. Tanner couldn't be bothered with doing many tricks, while Watson picks them up so quickly! Tanner cried about his toys and worried about them, while Watson loves to tear them apart! So we are so happy to have a new pup in our lives to love, and comforted knowing Tanner won't ever be replaced.

Christmas...a little late.

Sad that it is March and I am just barely talking about Christmas. But we had a great holiday. Took a road trip down to New Mexico to be with Scott's family. Weather was great, so the drive was easy and we got to spend a lot of time outside soaking up the sun! We only got to stay a few days, but it was great to catch up and all be together for the holiday again.

Playing ladder golf on Christmas eve! Madison's dog, Jester, was there to keep our new little man company.Lindy brought back a tradition that Sharon's mom had started for all of her grandkids, so we played Bingo for Christmas presents! And she made us all get a little dressed up! It was definitely a fun time and I know the kids enjoyed it so much! Here are our neices, Madison, Taylor, Devyn and Jordan all ready to play! The girls got a Wii dancing game so of course Scott and Shawn had to show them how it was done! Or at least they thought so!Madison and Watson.Little Devyn!

We were sad to leave, but had a wonderful holiday! Love that family!

My heart hurts...

...I want to finally update for the months I have missed, all the happy times. Christmas, New Years, new puppies, family visits, birthday's, weddings. But right now I can't seem to find a smile and my heart is breaking for all of the people dealing with so many hardships. The devastation that Japan is dealing with is unimaginable, but so much a reality. I wish I could do more than just donate a few dollars...

...and so many friends dealing with disease, loss, stress, selfishness.

...need to find a way to give back and help.
